AMD Product Roadmap
AMD recently held a conference call to clear up concerns and misconceptions regarding its product roadmap for 2013. The bottom line is that they are focusing on the existing HD 7000 series for the better part of 2013, but will launch new products into the channel before the end of the year. The recent "Sea Islands" product roadmap is geared toward OEMs who turn out yearly product updates.
Bulleted details from the call are as follows:
- “Sea Islands” is a codename on our roadmap for desktop and notebook graphics products targeted mainly to our OEM partners to meet their new design cycles (which started in January). The “Sea Islands” series will be released over multiple business quarters - in addition to those already launched, other parts will be launched in the future to round out the family.
- For the 1H of 2013, the HD 7000 Series remains a strong line-up of products with a lot of momentum now and still to come:
- AMD currently powers the fastest graphics card in the world today – the ASUS “Ares” products powered by two AMD Radeon™ HD 7970 GPUs.
- We have the World’s best software bundle - our Never Settle: Reloaded bundle. The press and social media reaction has been amazing – and our bundle has generated much more excitement than that of our competitor.
- We will continue to enhance the AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 series with performance gains available through enhanced drivers.
- There will also be some robust new HD7000-series roadmap additions coming in 1H 2013.
- AMD continues to execute its graphics roadmap to plan, and remains on track to begin shipping a new series of products in the channel by the end of 2013.
