1280x768 is the defacto standard for LCD TV's. only ultraportable laptops with 12" screens use this res that i know of.
most (cheap) widescreen notebooks and 17" desktop displays use 1280x800.
1280x768 (WXGA) is the standard now being used for most 17" widescreen LCD monitors. |

Yeah, 1280x768 is cool because you can run a standard 1024x768 pictue and it will automatically fill the screen vertically, with just black bars on both sides . . . . . . unless your 1280x768 panel is an Acer AL1751W, in which case it doesn't matter a damn what 4:3 resolution you set, you're still g... |
