I just want to see how the frame rates are at full detail + AA/AF before I build a new computer, since it will dominate 90% of my gaming :)

GTR2 is a very undemanding game so you could easily force vsynch on and still have no issues. assuming you meant 8000 gts or 8800 gtx. the very low model would struggle a bit more.

It's not demanding when you run in a private test session, but in the rain at night with 30+ cars might cause a problem. I just want to cover my minimum.

Hm. How did I miss this thread? :?

I've played this at 1920x1200 on the 7900GTO rig in my sig, and the X1950XTX rig. Both were smooth as silk with everything at max. 2x and 4x AA respectively.

Did you guys run with a full grid, at night, with rain, etc? In other words, have you put it through the most difficult situations, i.e. Spa :)

Also, which of the 8800-series outperforms the 7900GTO and X1950XTX in DX9?

The decision is between the 640mb 8800GTS, 8800GTX, and 2900XT when released. I just want to have smooth playback for all situations. I am wondering if the 2900XT with 512mb would even work well for hi-res gaming.

Thanks for the response. I am ordering the parts in the middle of the week.

Depending on the situation, any of the 8800 series will outperform the 7900GTO or X1950XTX. And yes, I did try putting it through it's paces with full weather and a full grid. I don't think I tried night driving, though...

Wait for the HD2900XT, then see what prices and performance are like. I'm sure there will be dozens of reviews out there in a few days. ;)

You should have no problems, I can run this game all options maxed out @ 3840x1024x32 with 100-120 fps, all clock speeds @ default values. Ok, it was only a time trial, no other cars, sunshine & no spectators but in your resolution it should still play fine.

Thanks Danny for your comments! My system should be identical to yours :D ...E6600, MSI P6N Plat., GTX, GTS, or 2900XT.

Some preliminary reviews of the 2900XT are out by vr-zone on old drivers and the results are mixed when compared to the GTS - sometimes slower, sometimes faster. It doesn't come close to the GTX, and has trouble with high AA/AF, but I will continue to wait until tomorrow when ATI hopefully releases better drivers :)
