I stopped playing Crysis. I do not like the performance at the moment, the game needs a patch, and quickly. SLI is not supposed to work like it does now, there is NO support for quadcore despite whatever Crytek says (I can code a movie to DivX in the background whilst playing Crysis and still have the same framerates...). I tried playing the game in 2560x1600 with all settings to "High" in XP, DX9 to DX 10 mod on. No chance. Below 20 frames. 1900 x1200 is better, but still not satisfactory, frame rates are in the low 30s but still drop to 25 regularly. I know Crysis is a real hardware hog, but one should be supposed to run even a game like this on a 8800 GTX SLI with better frame rates.

Performance in Vista 64 is a joke. Period.

G.

I'm on the same place as you! I have saved it stood ontop of the crane where Psycho is standing. If you put on speed, you can run and jump off the top and land on the ship, although i haven't yet managed to land without dieing lol, but imna keep on trying until i do it.

See this is why games take me so long to complete, i'll happily spend an hour trying to land this jump alive. (Video of the view from the crane) (And all me crysis screenshots n vids)

Can i make a request for the original default .cfg files in the CVar folder as well if anyone has em? They're only a few kb, if someone could zip em up and upload them somewhere for me i'd really appreciate it as i've messed around with mine too much and generally borked it up. Ta :P

I got around that when I actually used my brain.

If you go round the far side of the ship, there is a bit of the railing which is overhanging enough to act as a landing platform. Strength-jump up to it, and you're on the ship. :D Make sure that as many Korean's as possible are dead first, though, or they'll kill you while you jump.

I spent quite a while messing around with various tactics at one stage, but I find myself always going back to my favourite of 'cloak, snipe, cloak, move, snipe'...

Edit:

Oh.

Post-Ship, I had to turn my single core rig down to 1280x800, or it did single-figure fps. :(

Guys, glad you're liking the game, but this is a Crysis performance and tweaks threads not gameplay experiences. If we continue on topic maybe some that just bought it or are deciding whether they want to will glean some info about what works well hardware, settings and tweak wise.

You could always start a Crysis gameplay tactics thread with spoiler warnings.

Yeah, OK. Consider the previous stuff "tangent". ;)

To address the performance thing...

Single core CPUs don't do so well (although it might be that my only single core systems are very close to the min specs... even so, the jump in performance from my 3400+ system to my Opteron is very large...)

I'm convinced that my Crysis experience on a 7900GTO would be better if it were paired with a dual core CPU. The X1950XTX does medium really well, struggles a little on high (with framerate dips that are quite frequent and significant).

When I order a new GPU, I'll have more info there, I think. :) I've got such an 'upgrade itch' at the moment, if I find I have time before Christmas, I might well go the Quad+8800GT route.

Good points PS, and didn't mean to sound stuffy about the OT. I just think performance, hardware selection and tweaks are a very needed topic for the game right now. I'd hate to see a loss of sales due to some of the bad experiences some have reported because obviously this game has great potential.

As well as single vs dual core testamonials I would like to see some dual vs quad ones here, as many are weighing whether to go dual or quad right now. I think my above testamonial on single core spec speaks well of how the game can run at pretty good frame rates even on fairly low single core spec.

I meant to say this before for those whom may not know yet. The game looks totally different just going from Low shaders, shadows, and water to Medium on those settings. It really starts looking alive and realistic at that point.

That being said there are many options in the game that add little to no visual quality overall. The main ones to be concerned about are shaders, textures, shadows and water in that order.

Since my last report of settings in fact I have dropped volumetrics back to Low as it doesn't add much to the look. The result for me is I average 35 FPS now and the game doesn't dip below 20 FPS anymore during intense firefights.

On performance with quads, i've never seen it go over 35% cpu utilisation, so i really really doubt a quad makes much difference over a standard dual core.

And yeah, i want those default CVar cfg's back because my fps hit as low as 10fps earlier with about 3 dropships circling around kicking up dust!

I think it depends what your settings are - Crysis seems to palm off physics calculations to it's own core.

Well from what I'm reading quad cores are not supported yet and will be in a forthcoming patch. That combined with quad core CPUs having a slower stock speed than equally priced dual cores makes all the claims of poor quad performance understandable.

Couldent you just delete it and the game (every other modern game does it?) should make a new fresh one.
