When a reviewer mentions bugs in a review, you know it's serious...

Yes, unfortunately.
Im starting to hate how they make a game for the pc and then dumb it down to use on an consoles like the xbox.

What I found very interesting is that the German gamers feared the influence of "Americanization" on Gothic 3 in order to prepare Gothic 3 for the American market. Gothic I+II were dirty and there were naked women crouching the floor. Everybody drank alkohol and used narcotics. There was a brothel in the harbour in GII were you could get what you need...and see it. After the GTA coffee-shop desaster in the US GIII might be somewhat innocent in that way. ;)

But the graphics will never disuade me from playing a game. Heck, I still play UFO XCOM on Emulator, talk about chumpy graphics!

Yeahh! This piece of software was great. :D But again its sucessors sucked. :(

But yeah, if G3 is as buggy as early reports make it to be, hopefully that'll get fixed by the time it lands in NA...

We have a good chance. GI and GII were also buggy on release but got fixed.

Every great game has its share of bugs off the bat. HL-2 certainly had them - remember the st-st-st-stuttering, Mr. F-F-F-Freeman? :D

Hm.

THe G-man at the start of the game (for me) speeds up and slows down his speech in a very strange way... but watching the framerate, it remains constant so I don't think it's stuttering. Moreover, it doesn't happen at any other points in the game, so I think it's just the way the G-man talks.

Just gave that as an example. When it was initially released, beyond the Steam annoyances, the game had a serious bug that caused audio stuttering in speech. It would cause crashes, lock-ups, etc. My rig was pretty top-notch at the time and it would hang-up. It took Valve several patches to address it.

G-man's speech is kind of weird and slows and speeds up, but when it's done properly, it doesn't stutter. In the game's early days, that initial speech almost made the G-Man into G-Unit, what with all his stuttering rap-style speech.

I bought Gothic 3 today (in germany yesterday :P) and there aren't that much bugs! I just have seen two bugs in maybe 5 hours, so...it isn't that bad! The performance is better than in Oblivion for me. Runs 1920x1200, everything maxed up expect AF 4x and Depth of field disabled (I don't like it anyway :)). Oblivion looks sometimes better and sometimes Gothic 3.

The game itself is great - what an atmosphere. I never played Gothic before but this is amazing. Much better than Oblivion in my opinion. It is just the feeling, you really believe what's happening in Myrtana. In Oblivion I never touched the story, just done some quests, but those are in Gothic 3 even better.

I will post some screenshots in ~ 13 hours?!

I repeat: There aren't much bugs!

(Maybe because of the patch?)

So how was the settings? Did widescreen work ok?

I heard that it was the number one game over there and that it was sold out in lots of places

Settings:

Resolution: 1920x1200

Distance (High Details): Max
Distance (Low Details): Max

Resource-Cache: Max
Objectdetails: Max

Shaderquality: 3.0
Texturequality: Max
Texturefiltering: Anisotropic 4x (goes up to 16x)
Vegetationquality: Max

Shadowquality: Max

No HDR support but the bloom is looking really hot.

Native widescreen support!

AFR2 SLI-Mode = Most effective but creats graphic bugs.
AFR is good too and works perfectly.

Here some pics:

OK, now I have to play again.

I've only got a 6800gt, any tips for running it in 1680x1050? (save upgrading!)

Daniel.

@emanuel.en
Your 1920x1200 look fishy. Thats not Widescreen, thats just stretched I think.

edit:
I just checked other screenshots: Thats definitely stretched and not widescreen. I really hope a patch will fix this.
