Gamespot report the following update from Valve regarding the forthcoming Aftermath expansion pack...

MOre halflife2 stuff :)

Valve Software has revealed to GameSpot that Aftermath, the upcoming expansion pack to the award-winning 2004 shooter Half-Life 2, has been renamed "Half-Life 2: Episode One." When asked whether the name change is indicative of a change in direction for the Half-Life 2 franchise, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi replied, "episodic." When asked the follow-up question of whether the new name meant that beginning of a regular flow of content, Lombardi replied, "yes."

This change in focus may not be surprising to fans of Valve who are familiar with the company's online delivery service, Steam. The company recently announced that it was partnering with developer Ritual Entertainment to produce SiN Episodes, , a series of episodic games on a regular basis that would be distributed online via the Steam service. GameSpot will have more updates on Half-Life 2: Episode One as they become available.

OMG, i can't wait to play a new HL2 adventure.
The only thing i'm worried about is that the games become ordinary.
I think the long waiting made HL2 an extra fun game.
If we see a new HL game every 6 months i don't think that would help keeping the game interesting. :(

I agree as well....

It was the sense of "I want this game now" that made HL2 fun...

If you see something more often, it's not as enjoyable.

If that was true then Ultima IX would have been the best game ever. :) Half-Life 2 was a fun game because it was a good game. If Valve has screwed up all the waiting in the world wouldn't have made it good.

And I do have to say, sometimes seeing something more often can make things even more enjoyable. Just think about your significant other...

If Duke Nukem Forever is ever going to be released it's going to bitchslap every game out there into nothingness.
It would be the only game played at that moment, by everybody in the world.

I'm surprised Gamespot just got that news Feb 10 ?? !!

I had read that somewhere & we had discussed that here back in Jan.

These episodes will be released every few (ha!!) months & cost ~$20 US apiece.

I think late April is the tentative release date for "Aftermath".

ROFL....  Hail to the king baby!

i think aftermath sounded better than episode one. Gordon Freeman is cool, but he's no Skywalker.

The episodic news is old, but the name change is new, and it sucks big time.
