I was thinking about this but the lack of a behind the car cam seems like a turn off.
Oh, come on. Did you miss it in Alien Shooter or... GTA2 ?
The lack of anything past the 17 back-to-back levels and no free vehicle selection is a lot more repelling, I'd say.

I gota say I really dislike the camera as well, not really the angle but just how it feels. It's as if its very loose until the car turns a certian amount and it just kind of snaps. D.I.P.R.I.P. functioned similar, and I really could not enjoy it for that reason.

Yeah, I hated the camera's inertia first, too. It feels really odd when you're just driving the taxi around with no weapons attached. Now I'm used to it and it feels ok, it's actually pretty good when scanning the surroundings for ammo pick-ups while driving; a "firm" camera would make it tiresome, esp. in surround.

When I am running over hordes of zombies I like a close third-person camera to help evaluate my performance. Is that so wrong?

As long as you don't blame a top-down game for not having a chase cam, not at all.

As long as you don't blame me for not wanting a top-down car game without a chase cam, then I agree.

Patch 1.0.4 adds two new camera modes, although the position remains the same.
-"smart" is the default cam, kind of a compromise between the other two.
-"fixed" is like smart with close to zero inertia.
-"free look" lets you rotate the view with the mouse. No more parking maneuvers to peek down narrow alleys. I love it.
