Hi. I've read somewhere that in Starcraft 2, you can actually see more when using 1920 x 1080 resolution than when using 1920 x 1200. This is kinda odd. Is this actually true? Thanks. |

I am not sure if it is true. However, if it has Hor+ behavior this is normal. 1920x1200 is 16:10 1920x1080 is 16:9 There are also some games which just scale up, so a 1920x1200 screen can see more than 1680x1050 but I am doubtful this would be in starcraft with the level of competitive play. If so then 1920x1200 would show more than 1920x1080. |

It's true since SC2 is Hor+... so 1920x1080 being 16:9 will see more than 1920x1200. How much you can see isn't based on number of pixels, it's based on aspect. |

The only games where you see more in 1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 are pixel based games (not including vert- games here like borderlands etc). See Red Alert 2 or C&C Tiberian Sun, they are good examples. But yes as Hydralisk_X said, for Hor+ games, 16:9 is wider therefore you see more |

Does this also imply that you can still see more when using a 1920x1080 16:9 resolution than when using a 2560x1600 16:10 resolution in SC2? |

It does indeed apply. The larger resolution will give you a sharper image, but your field of view will still be locked to the same as all other 16:10 ratios so you would not gain any extra visability of the map, just crisper/better looking models etc. |

Then the dell u2711 is a better choice compare to the dell u3011 :p |

General question from a first-time poster (thread seems fitting): Can some games be edited or hacked in order to change the way they handle aspect ratios? Or in other words, is it possible to make some games go from hor+ to ver- (16:10 friendly) ? Thanks in advance for the answers and sorry if question seems dumb ^^ |

FOV and aspect ratio... not the same thing. Vert- and "16:10 friendly"... not the same thing. Again, 1920x1200 (16:10) has more pixels than 1920x1080 (16:9), but it's still a narrower resolution. It makes sense that you "see less on the sides" because, compared to 16:9, 16:10 has "less picture on the sides". |

FOV and aspect ratio... not the same thing. Here's what I understood while reading various sites (I'm new to all this): 1) You will "see less on the sides" in 16:10 (compared to 16:9) only if the game is Hor+. And both 16:10 and 16:9 will show the same vertically. 2) However if the game is Ver-, both 16:10 and 16:9 will show the same on the sides (horizontally), but 16:10 will show more vertically than 16:9. In the event that 1) and 2) are right (everyone's more than welcome to correct me), and that I'm interested in buying a 16:10 monitor, here's my original question: Can some games be switched/hacked/edited to go from Hor+ to Ver- ? I suppose that for such a switch to occur, the game has to already know (encoded by the programmers) how much to show horizontally in Ver-. Or that such a "value" can be assigned by the user. |
