I have a decent size walk in closet and wanted to do a flight simulator in there. I have room for a basic setup, seat, controls, ect. My question is what should I go with for display? I've been debating between a single projector, or 3 monitors. The monitors would likely be 24 to 26". If I do a projector id be looking at a wall display area of about 70". What do you think would capture the flight sim experience better? Ill be using fsx. Id like to ultimately do the 3 projector wrap around setup, but can't justify the money right now. Looking to spend $600 to $800 max if possible on the display. My only experience is I set up a stick, throttle, and pedals on a basic pc with a 19" monitor a few years ago. Looking for something on the next level. I've been a real pilot for about 12 years now, so I want to replicate the flight environment as best I can for my budget. Thanks for any tips and advice. |

Hi: Being a real pilot you might want to find someone who has a large screen and plug into it and see if you like it. Depending on what you are flying, some of of the instrumentation can be a little hard to read with a large display by the time you move back to a comfortable distance from the large display. Have fun. |

In terms of simplicity, a single projector is going to be easier and cheaper in the long run. It requires less hardware to drive it, less money invested in displays, and you don't have to work out how to get your flight sim working in multi-monitor. However, as stated, the instrument panel can be hard to read on a projector display sometimes. If you can add a single monitor to sit close to you to act as the instrument panel, then that would probably fix the problem. |
