Are you doing this ... ?

From the solution above ...
If you go into the game and choose ... Options ... Display ... it will show up as 640x480 and then re-set it's self to this res. (So don't go into this option.)

Once you have set the res don't go here or it will reset itself.

It has been a while since I've played FEAR, but can't you just make settings.cfg read-only to prevent this from happening?

Is there any way to control refresh rate? I'm trying to get this working on a Sony HS10 projector, which syncs to 1368x768 only at 56Hz. I don't know if it's the refresh rate or something else, but the config changes don't seem to be working.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

As the projector is not a PC monitor issues can arise with games coded for PC vs consols

This explains a lot
Tutorial: Viewing Image Quality-PC Monitor/TV/Consoles/DVD

If you were to have a consoil version & run that with the consol your issues would most likely vanish.

PowerStrip or hardware scaler units might fix some PC to TV issues or provide suitable workarounds.

hi guys im new here and new to the game hacking thing.I just bought a widescreen monitor and love it. My question is, with a game like FEAR, does the hack make it 100% widescreen?

also in the widescreen game list, what does .ini, hor+, ver+, hack, Cmd line, and stretch mean? sorry im a noob here! :(

Hi Virgo,

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/

.ini means you need to edit a file (normally ending .ini or .cfg) to get it working.

Hor+ = proper widescreen.

Hack = needs a program or hex editing knowledge.

cmd line = works via adding something to the shortcut loading the game

stretch = res might work, but it's merely a 4:3 image pulled sideways...

sweet, thank again Paradigm! :)

and btw, are all newer PC games being formated for widescreen like the xbox 360 and PS3? it would be a waste if PC developers dont support widescreen, afterall the majority of monitors and laptops are widescreen now.

Unfortunately no, not all new games have true ws support. But more and more do.
