Hey boekabart,

So i deinstalled my complete game. then i run the istall exe from the disc and installed the Age of empires 2 full. After this i Installed The Conquerrors patch and the 1.0e patch. Now i´ve donloaded your age2_x1.exe, the aoe2wide.dat and the aoe2wide.exe and copy it into the main folder of Age of empires 2.
my desktop resolution is maxumim 1600x900 and i startet the aoe2wide.exe
The patch run succsesfuly and he created a aoe2_x1_1600x900.exe
when i run this exe, Aoe2 conquerrors starts and then in standart game the resolution is on 1024x768. What can i do now to have a 1280x1024 resolution in the game?

thanky a lot, antiflag

As the patcher says, 1600x900 is a patch for 1024x768 (since I cannot (yet) shrink images yet.
So in the game you'd have to select 1024x768, 1280x1024 is probably greyed out.
By the way I've just tested this here (1600x1000 in fact), and doesn't work very well yet.

So far, only 1280x1024 and larger is supported.... sorry for that. Maybe I should do the shrinking support quickly....

I cannot test 13XX x 768 here, my PC doesn't support this resolution, and I can't make out anything in your screenshot unfortunately.

I wonder about one thing. The patch works just great, besides a little thing.
In the water are on some areas purple pixles and on land areas of red ones mixed in in the normal colors.
If I take a screenshot, the screenshot is clean and doesnt have those.
How to get rid of those purple and red pixels ingame?
Should I sent pictures?
Will have to get my digicam to take a picture of my screen.

Added shrink support for the images.

Now everything 1280 and wider will be done by patching 1280x1024.
Tested: 1280x960, 1440x900.
NOT working: 1280x800, 1366x768 I don't know why yet.

Ok here i am, again ;)

is it possible than anybody with a 1680x1050 resolution can patch aoe2 and give me the aoe2_x1_1680x1050 and the 16801050.drs ?
now i want to try with rivatuner or something sike that to enforce a higher resolution as it is possible on windows. then run the exe, and hope that it fits.

Hello boekabart,

First of all, I want to thank you for attempting to make AoC widescreen. It's sorely needed as the AoC community is still strong (@ Voobly has 500+ members playing AoC DAILY).

I seem to have a problem though. The patch is not successfully creating a new .exe. Instead, I see this error:

I'm not exactly what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded and installed that latest .NET Frame (3.5). I also downloaded your latest AoE2Wide.exe and AoE2Wide.dat files and put them in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesAge of Empires IIage2_x1 folder. Lastly, I used your age2_x1.exe version. But it is still saying I am missing the interfac.drs file, even though I have it.

I would be forever grateful if you pointed me the correct direction =).

p.s. Would it also be possible to make a 1980x1080 version of the patch? 1080p resolution is the standard resolution for digital movies, and also many monitor's native resolutions. It would so awesome to use this resolution. Again, thank you very much.

@stibaer : Probably Vista / Windows 7 messing up your palette, not related to the patch?

@Anubis : The instructions state that it should all be put in the game MAIN folder, not the age2_x1 folder. My age2_x1 exe runs fine from the main folder. I'll add support for '..Data' checking in a future release, however.
@Anubis : You should be able to make ANY resolution patch if you copy age2_x1.exe to the main folder, move AoE2Wide.* there and run it. Let me know if not!

Update:

I've made the patcher a bit more usable. It can now (but doesn't have to) be put in (and run from) any subfolder of the main game directory, together with the dat file if you please. It will search 'upwards' for the main gamefolder. My age2_x1.exe can be in either the main folder or age2_x1, whatever you prefer, and you can give its name a suffix (e.g. age2_x1_1.0c_nocd.exe or age2_x1_pre_widescreen.exe or so) so you can recognize it (and not use it if you want to play online 1.0e). The patcher will find and recognize it (by name, size and MD5 checksum).

Also, I've gotten rid of the pinkyness: I think I figured out how to repeat the last pixel on the line until the end of it. Not perfect, but a lot better (especially in the top of the screen!).
Also the Slp patcher code has been cleaned up a lot, and i've changed the vertical stretching method so it's not so very obvious (almost invisible!) anymore in e.g. the 'save' screen.

Widescreen resolutions 1280 and wider, and somewhere-between-800-and-900 and higher work (1440x900 does, 1280x800 or 1280x720 don't).

Good News: Now everything wider than 1023 works, that includes 1152 864, 1280x720, 1280x800, 1440x900 and so. Did so by finding out all the relevant resolutions for 1024x768 as source, and fixed the scaling-down-limit-bug.
