Just a guess here, maybe you screen only exposes the 1080i format and not 1080p, might not notice in the desktop, mostly look at the cursor it'll be hmm, weird, not sure how to describe it, when you move it.

You might want to try adding 1920x1080 progressive as a resolution manually. If you've got an nvidia card it's in the resolution/timings section. For ati you'll need powerstrip. Powerstrip can also be used to generate a .inf driver for your tv/monitor to use instead of the 'default monitor' or 'plug and play monitor' that are usually detected and sometimes cause problems.

It could just be games/demos that don't have higher choices too though, something like the UT2004 demo could be a useful test, get it, install it, run it then:
type ~ to open the console
type "setres 1920x1080x32" without the " " and press enter.
UT2004 is usually pretty good at taking just about any res. (I once tried 1024x1024)

thanks for your answer!

it seems to be a driver problem! i got the 64 bit version of windows vista and the OS installed the wrong drivers for the display by default (some of a philips model 105, seems to be veeery old).
i was not able to find any better driver for my TV.

i wonder why other games like test drive unlimited or bioshock are running perfect with 1920x1080, while other games like BF2 only reach 1024x768.

i really dont know where to look for a better driver.
the device is a philips 42 PF 7641 D. maybe one of you guys can help me!

un-install the driver and use DVI directly with out HDMI
it should just pick it up as a plug and play monitor and work fine

if no just add the res in by hand

As I said previously, could just be some of those games don't natively support that res. I'm pretty sure BF2 doesn't from the threads about fixing it, I don't have it myself.

As for a driver, if it detected that wrong, you could either use powerstrip to generate one based on what the monitor tells powerstrip, or simply change it to the default 'plug and play' driver.

To do that you go to device manager (quick way is to type devmgmt.msc from start->run). Under monitors you should see something, double click the philips 105 you say it detected. Pick upgrade/update driver. All the way trough pick something like 'do not search, I will pick' up till you're at a white box with a couple models listed. Uncheck the 'show compatible devices' if you don't see 'plug and play monitor' then under microsoft from the company lists pick 'plug and play monitor' and finish the dialog with it. It should give it a driver that'll ask the monitor/tv what it can/can't show and should get 1080 functionning properly.

If some games already work at 1080p though, I'd say it's a problem with individual game resolution support, did you try the UT2004 demo?
