Greetings. I've recently come into possession of the PC version of Mega Man X7, which was released only in Korea. The game refuses to install on non-Korean PC's, but I've developed a workaround based on various pieces of information from the internet. If you are by chance looking for the method I've used to install the game, I've made a write-up on it on
PCGamingWiki and
VOGONS. In any case, the game normally ships with a locked resolution of 640x480, which I wouldn't have minded as much since I usually use DGvoodoo to force a higher resolution, however it seems to stretch out the UI to such a degree that it blocks part of the screen. According to the game's system requirements, it uses DirectX8, and I remember of another DirectX override tool, aptly named DXOverride. However, that works only with DirectX9 games, which this was not, but there was also another tool, a DX8 to DX9 converter. I've decided to combine the two tools together, and to my surprise, it resulted in Hor+ widescreen! I was personally expecting vert- or a stretched image, but this seems to have worked.

This is the part most of you will probably be interested in, so read on.
- Download ENBSeries DX8 to DX9 Convertor.
- Open the downloaded zip and copy d3d8.dll and enbconvertor.ini to the installation folder.
- Download DXOverride.
- Extract to the installation folder.
- Open d3d9.ini.
- Set the resolution values as needed.
However, this comes with a few caveats. The coloring appears slightly brighter than usual, movies and other 2D elements like the loading or transition screen are located at the top left corner of the screen, and enemies only appear when they're inside the 4:3 middle section of the game. Contrast to the emulated PS2 version which has the enemies spawn in properly, I just dropped my random finding off so that others could potentially pitch in suggestions and fixes to make the widescreen of this game as perfect as possible. I hope this is of some help to some people!
