Those of you using the inexpensive adapter for an eyefinity setup probably encountered the problem:
your displayport monitor sometimes switches to 640x480 resolution, breaking the eyefinity display group. no possibility of resetting the resolution.

Something that worked for me: physically disconnect the displayport adapter - no matter how hard it is to pry it out of the socket!
Just removing the VGA cable from the adapter doesn't work. The adapter itselft has to be removed!

Afterwards just plug it in again and bingo, it works again.

There should be a button on the side of the plug that makes it easy to remove.

Happens to me with a DVI adapter still on windows reboots. Replugging a USB port is a little easier though :)

I've been using a VGA to displayport adaptor for a little over a week now and it's been perfect. Not once dropped the group and seemlessly switched between different modes. Unlike my active (apple) displayport to DVI which was a disaster switching modes.

I have to do this pretty much every boot. Sometimes it will be at 640x480, othertimes it goes completely blank. Not sure if there's a permanent fix for it, but some catalyst releases have been better than others in reducing the occurance.

Annoying, but I put it with it. It's still not a bad option for $20.

Perhaps some vga-dp adapters are better than others. I personally have a no-name vga to mini-DP. Here are the specs and details for it if they mean anything http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=280940730

I no longer have this issue on restarts now after installing the 10.4 preview driver linked below.
