yes but I wonder ...
if nvidia gets the best performance card (which I expect very much, even if by a few % only)
Will eyefinity allow ATI to be "top performer" nonetheless ?

this short term fix could be a long term fix if only manufacturers got a reliable way to remove bezels or make them <1mm 8)

Nvidia will probably release a "GTX 380" faster than 5870, maybe like 15%, then ATI will release the 5870X2 in december that will dizimate the "GTX 380".

As I see it the 'it must be flatter/thiner' craze is why we're stuck with large bezels.

If they had concentrated on make less bezels instead of how thin the screen is, by now we'd have truly bordelerless screens with the electronics behind the screens or even inside the stand.

Heck, you could do it half-way with bezels top and bottom but not on side or vice-versa.

Yes, the 5870 xfire solution seems to be quite powerful. :D

I'll wait for a source that isn't directly connected with the manufacturer before I'd believe benches. Color me cynical of anything from a PR release. Of course, that said even if it turned out to be slower than a GTX260, it still would have better surround-gaming capability than anything nVidia at the moment. EyeFinity in and of itself is an attractive selling quality regardless of card performance...and since we're talking about enthusiast line of cards, I have little doubt it'll do just fine for most surround-gaming situations.

To me, it looks like most game on either card. To me after 30 fps, i cant really tell the difference in gameplay.

Only reason to want more performance is when dealing with multi-monitor environments (EyeFinity - so, yes!) where more VRAM is also important... or to provide futureproofing.

Given the wave of console ports, I wouldn't worry too much about futureproofing until the new consoles (XBox "3" and PS4 or whatever) are out. ;)

Oh, I forgot benchmarks and bragging rights. Two very important factors. ;)

I don't agree
I play at 1680x1050

I'm happy to have my GTX285 for Titan Quest with Xmax mod (which increase number of monsters up to x10) (a G92 would struggle a lot more)
I'm happy to have it for Sacred 2 All options On
for GTA 4 too

and there's others out there...

I'm very exigent or even quite picky with the framerates achieved and I prefer no quality compromise if that's possible, so it really depends on what one wants!
