So, if I understand correctly, so far:
Single screen DVI-VGA works.
Single screen DP-VGA works in some games (L4D2), but not in others (BFBC2).
Signal gets lost in some games and only over dp-VGA connection. This also happens when you alt-tab out of the game.

Seems to me that the culprit is that the card cannot handle the resolution changes over DP fast enough and the signal gets lost due to some timeout.

In your monitor menu, you can turn on resolution notifier. There you should get a message when resolution changes. You can then check and see if this happens when it switches.

If this is the case, it can be fixed by Diamond by getting a new GFX bios from them. Earlier, ATI released bios'es that increased signal strength and adapter compatibility over DP and Diamond might not have updated theirs.

This is exactly right.

I have found a bios update download on the diamond website
http://www.dmmsupport.com/index.php?action=kb&article=97

but i'm not sure if this will work on my card since it is not a reference design card. However, it has the same model number as the reference design card (which is lame in my opinion). Should i try flashing anyhow?

-edit Just compared bios on my card with that one via Radeon Bios Editor and that was made earlier than my current bios. I dont think I should flash to it..

Contact Diamond and get one from them directly. This way you won't get into any warranty issues if the card fails even unrelated to bios. :)

Hi guys,

I would like to report that, apart from wacky ATI issues with the Eyefinity setup, i have had no problems whatsoever with my DP-VGA converters, there was one instance of a black screen but that was me being a dumbass and accidentally pulling one of the DP connectors out ;)

It seems like they fixed the issue on the eyefinity cards and that it's not a DP converter issue.
Try updating the bios's of your cards, but do not hold me responsible if you kill them ;P

By the way, my watercooling is done:

Update

I RMA'd the card and got a non-ref xfx instead. The problem is pretty much fixed and works flawlessly for the past hour with my monster adapter. Didn't bother to try my accell or monoprice adapter. Hopefully it stays working

Look like that diamond was a dud. I do miss the quiet fan on the diamond... the one on the xfx sounds like a jet engine compared to that diamond... Oh well, fair trade off i suppose.

Offcourse it would be really cool if you tried the accel and monoprice (for the record) :D

In the mean time: if i don't touch the eyefinity-group settings the Apple is working 100%
But now with my dual 5970 i have to turn of xfire regulary to get some games working... This messes up the Eyefinity group and i am not able to get the group right again with the Apple, i have to switch resolution by using the Accel  and this gives blanking.. So i have to install the Apple again :doh

Just ordered the HP VGA adapter, just for kicks.. Will keep you posted.

I just got the Sapphire adapter and it will not let me run my monitor @ 1920X1200. It will only run @ 1680X1050 for some apparent reason. Anyone know why that might be. It says right on the box it supports 1920X1200?

Is this the active DVI? Or the VGA?
