So I ordered this http://www.amazon.com/Accell-UltraAV-B101B-003B-Display-Adapter/dp/B003HC85D2/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt

It has worked flawlessly so far. I can't tell the difference between it and dvi. Couple minor things that bug me are when you turn off your pc, the monitor connected to it wont go into standby. Also, the monitor connected to it doesnt respond when you turn on the pc as quickly as the dvi ones do.

Yes, I recommend this adapter.

If you're using the one you linked to a couple of posts up, then it's active. On the other hand, for all I know it might be fully possible to run 3 monitor Eyefinity with a passive DP-VGA adapter.

Yes, it IS possible to run 3 monitor Eyefinity using a DP -> VGA passive adapter. That's what I'm doing...and have been doing for a few months now. As well as a few others that have posted in this thread.

Here is a link to the one I'm using....

FTR, I have no problem with my adapter connected monitor going into standby. But, it does respond a wee bit slower than the others when coming out of standby...but not by enough to be a bother...to me. :)

And, BTW, if you do happen to encounter a "lost signal" event on that monitor, just do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the Task Manager and then click on CANCEL. No need to reboot. But, do post back if there are any unexpected happenings.

Currently running XFX Radeon 5850 with 3 23" HP L2335 monitors running in eyefinity. I'm having problems getting this setup to work at the proper resolution. All of the monitors are the same so you would think the computer would recognize this but it doesn't. For the two plugged in via DVI they display the option to use their optimal resolution (1920x1200). While the One monitor plugged in via the displayport using a vga adapter only obtains a maximum reported resolution of 1920x1080. As you can see this causes problems as the setup can only run at the resolution of the lowest monitor (meaning 1920x1080). I have no idea why it keeps detecting any monitor I plug into the displayport as 1920x1080. I've tried all three monitors and all yield the same result. The displayport adapter is ATI certified and is stated to be able to run at a maximum resolution of 1920x1200. The device is the Accell B101B-003B Active Displayport to VGA adapter. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several versions of Catalyst Control Center and it still reads the displayport monitor as 1920x1080. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated. The setup still looks nice at 5760x1080 but I would much rather have the optimal resolution of 5700x1200.

You are kind of heading in the wrong direction
VGA is nice and all but it doesn't support higher resolutions... so you can't upgrade.. and by now active adaptors are readily available

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-BizLink-DisplayPort-Adapter-Powered/dp/B003XYBA72/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1289328008&sr=8-1-spell

this works great with my
3 Samsung SyncMaster 2443 BW displays
running at smooth 1920x1200
and I wouldn't say it too expensive or something

Try turning off the "Use EDID...." option in CCC.

Go to....

Desktops & Displays

Click on the small black triangle in the lower...and smaller set of icons...on the display connected via DP and then select Configure

On the next screen, click on the Color tab

Under the Color Temperature Control, uncheck the box in front of "Use Extended....."

Click on Apply and Exit CCC.

Now, right click on the Windows Desktop and select Screen Resolution.

Again, click on the display connected via DP or select it from the drop-down menu.

Click on the Advance Settings option.

On the next screen you should be looking at Adapter Type and your video card name that is installed.

At the bottom is a button for "List All Modes." Click on that.

Now, in the list that comes up, can you now select your desired resolution and Refresh Rate?

If not, then it would appear that the adapter is not providing the signal needed to perform to the monitor's ability and design.

Good luck, though. I think you need a little of that and a whole lot of miracle.

I upgraded to Catalyst 11.3 and what a pain it was to get my eyefinity setup right with my CRT. I really had to fiddle with the settings to get my refresh rate on my FW900 set to anything but 60hz. Somehow I managed to get it to run at 100hz with the lcds on either side at 60hz with eyefinity and bezel compensation. Running 5140x1050 resolution now. Works better now with the crt at 100hz instead of 85hz like I had it back on Catalyst 10.x.
