Is there a reason for me to switch to this adapter if I already have a passive DP to VGA adapter? Will it improve the tearing issue, or any other reasons to switch?

DVI--> VGA

Auto set picture on your monitor. no moving the picutre into the right position.

About Tearing... well.. Using adapters might cause tearing! tought IIRC vga is supposed to have less tearing issues than DVI.
