When I install the 182.50 drivers (on Windows 7 64 bit) I get the following errors several times during the installation. I got the driver from the nvidia site (vista64 version).

There was a problem starting C:Windowssystem32NVCPL.DLL
There was a problem starting C:Windowssystem32NVMCTRAY.DLL

I have tried running in compatibility mode and running as an administrator. When the computer restarts after installing the driver, I get the same two errors again. I am unable to access the control panel or use the Aero settings.

HOWEVER, I am finally able to switch to 5040 x 1050. While I'm happy to finally see this, it doesn't do me a lot of good since I can't access the NVIDIA Control Panel and no games will run.

Regarding the 5040 x 1050 issue:
I have tried many different combinations nvidia drivers and powerdesk version with no luck. These are the only drivers that work, but are totally screwed up. Uggh!

Anyway, has anyone else encountered this? Or does anyone have a suggestion or potential solution?

Thanks!

after the system told me 182.5 was installed I reinstalled the drivers to get the control panel etc loaded.

Hope it can be of use.

Good Luck.

What setup file are you supposed to run at the end? If I run the driver installer, I just have the same problem again. When I search for just the control panel software, nvidia is telling me to download the latest drivers.

Is there a seperate control panel installer? Or am I just missing something obvious.

Note: I don't have the 'IS' folder. I have the 'English' folder.

Thx

Okay, I think I have it working now. I did the following:

1. Delete all the contents of the C:NVIDIA folder.
2. Starte the 182.50 install, but quit (so it will just copy the drivers to the NVIDIA folder).
3. Uninstall the current driver from Device Manager.
4. Restart
5. The 182.50 drivers will auto-install on reboot (DO NOT RESTART AFTER)
6. I repeat DO NOT RESTART
7. Go to Device Manager and 'Update Driver'
8. Choose the path of 182.50 Drivers (should be C:NVIDIAWinVista64182.50English)
9. You will be told the drivers are up to date.
10. Restart
11. At this point, the driver is installed, but the control panel and physx are not.

--To install the control panel and PhysX--
(Note: Mine would not install with the 'English' driver set. I would just get the same error again and have to start all over.)

11. Download the International version of 182.50 Drivers
12. Start the install, but quit like before (this will create a new directory in the NVIDIA folder. Instead of 'English' you will see 'IS'.)
13. Run the Setup.exe (not the other executable) within that folder and install the drivers as you normally would. (I don't know if this is necessary, but I turned on compatibility mode to 'vista sp2' and checked 'run as administrator')
14. Restart
15. You can then run the PhysX executable in the driver folder or download it from the NVIDIA site.

That was it for me. Everything seems to be working now. Hope this helps. Thanks for the video link. I wouldn't have gotten this far without it.

EDIT: Everything seems to work but Aero. I can live with that.

Same for me, 182.50 seems to be only drivers working for 5040x1050 and I don't have aero, TrackIR setup screens don't display either.

After spending a few hours trying to solve this I simply drop down to 3840x1024 to use TrackIR setup. Aero comes back too.

I'd like Aero to work but I'm happier I ge 5040x1050.

Interestingly before I changed to an i7/x58 motherboard with the same gpu/monitors I could use any drivers I liked with 5040.

Regards
Fred

For what it's worth, I'm also using an i7.
