Post subject:  New driver question

I recently installed an evga gtx 285 card, the driver listed is 181.20 the latest driver listed on evga's site is 182.08. I've read at different forums that people like "driver" 18..... or they dont like this driver or that driver
comments?
I've run the compatibility tool from Matrox and it says I should have the 5K resolution but only the 3800 shows up, have done all the downloads, etc so now i'm looking at drivers or ?
thanks

Since it's an EVGA card and EVGA has the newer driver listed, which is most likely a beta version they tested, I would use that one. Nice card btw, I'm holding off for the GTX300 DX11 card.

GTX300 looks interesting. :)

I remember looking (and waiting for) GT100 last year, but it didn't bring anything new. GT300 series is supposedly a new design and you know how I love new tech. ;)

I love my 4870X2, but I'm sure I'll get a DX11 card once I've seen how the R800 series and the GT300 series stack up against each other. :cheers

Didn't mean to go OT so much, but since the OP hasn't responded back yet, what the heck. I'm a bit surprised the 4890 is so far only showing about equal performance to the GTX 285 and at a speculated similar price range. Of course those are just synthetic benches and theoretical prices so far though, unless there's some new info out there I've missed.

I dont really understand why you feel that way, Considering the 4870 and 260 were battling it out, I dont expect it to be better than a GTX280 in most (2 out of 3) real world tests. ATI has always been higher in synthetic benchmarks dating back to the 2k series.

It was a bit off topic and the thread should have been in the troubleshooting section. I'll allow it and rather spend some time troubleshooting with him when he responds. :)

I don't think the 4890 is nothing more then a R700 series chip. Much like the GTX275 being GT200. They are simply OC variants of the same series.

GTX295 is also rumored to come on a single PCB design.

I think that Nvidia and ATI needs to sell out some chips before we see the new designs like R800 and GT300. Should be fun, since they both have a new architecture from what I have read, and, both supports the same DX version ensuring faster adoption to it.

Thank god.

DX10.1 and DX11 en masses.

I just hope DX11 is more performance efficient than DX10. That's one of the things that made me want to pass on DX10, too many games bogging down when it's used.
