Hi, i was reading the TH2Go Digital edition review over at hardocp.com and they mentioned that Crossfire doesnt work with TH2Go, of course at the time of the review only the 2900 was available.

My current setup has a 4870x2 and in the future i would like to crossfire it with a 4870, but only if there is a benefit while using TH2Go.

So, is there an advantage, please post if you know or if you have crossfire and TH2Go.

Just waiting on that piece of info to buy my Triple Head 2 GO :D

Thanks

I'd check the Matrox website about available resolutions with ATI cards. I seem to remember that ATI cards have issues with the pixel width required by TH2G and that several of the widest resolutions only work right with the nVidia cards. This is a design flaw of ATI/AMD not Matrox. With your 3X 24" you'll probably want to be pushing the new 5040x1050, but I don't think your card can do that resolution.

Thats weird, cuz i can play @ 5760 * 1200 with SoftTH.

Maybe it was just a design flaw of the 2900 series, if anyone else knows please let me know, i literally have the triple head 2 go ready to order!!!

Thanks

That review is a little outdated. Since then, Matrox has released a new firmware update that allows max 3 x 1680 x 1050 for newer Nvidia cards and max 3 x 1440 x 900 for newer Ati cards (including HD 4000 series).

SofTH and Matrox's TH2Go are 2 different approaches, with each having its own strong and weak points. My understanding is, SofTH does not support 2 cards in Crossfire mode in the sense that it will work but without performance gain. However, 4870x2 is 'internally crossfired' and so SofTH considers it as one card and will, therefore, benefit from the power of dual GPUs. But, if you add a second 4870x2 to form 'Quad' crossfire, SofTH wont benefit from it. Contrarily, TH2Go can readily benefit from crossfiring 2 cards, performance-wise. (The 'limitation' of using newer Ati cards is stated in the 1st paragraph above.)

Yes, crossfireX works with the TH2Go. I am not sure if it works or not with triple 1680 x 1050 but I have triple 1280 x 1024 and it's running fine.

We need to fix that in our FAQ, I believe it states only NVIDIA cards work right now.

Thanks for the replies.

Good to know it works now.

In SoftTH i did not see ANY improvements by going from a 4870 to a 4870x2, Devil May Cry ran at the exact same speed as a my 4870 alone.

That is ones of the reasons i want TripleHead 2 Go, hopefully then i can use my video card to the fullest.

BTW i did see improvements in my games going from a 4870 to a 4870x2 while playing on a single screen, its just in SoftTh it seems like any optimizations ATI did with the x2 dont get activated or something...

Same performance with SoftTH, hopefully TH2Go will see an improvement :(

I ran the DMC benchmark out of curiosity the other day. Even though I got an A or whatever I didn't see it perform on par with what I was seeing. I've seen many games with better/more detail run faster. Seems buggy and overly demanding to me.

Actually, the engine they use for DMC and Lost Planet its pretty good, its very stable and flexible, it runs on Triple Head from the box, which says a lot, even the HUD stays on the center screen...
