I got bored today and decided to see if TH2G was compatable with SoftTH and see if I could get 5 screens up and running in surround gaming. Surprisingly enough, it works rather smoothly.

Here is Dark Age of Camelot in 6400x1024 5 screen surround gaming goodness:

Now that is just getting excessive and probably way to hard to concentrate on :roll:

I would be interested to know about performance in new games and how well it works (only some games or all surround capable games)

The whole reason why this sub-forum exists is to have fun showing surround-gaming solutions. Any surround-gaming setup can be easily labeled "excessive". I've never seen anyone else try TH2G+SoftTH in a 5 monitor configuration, so it merits posting because others might want to know it can be done. I could especially see this as attractive to flight and racing simulator fans. :D

I'm mostly surprised it surpassed the 4096 width limitations, but I learned from the author of SoftTH that limitation is because of video card texture limits. The 8XXX series Geforce cards can do a theoretical 8192 width according to DirectX Caps Viewer. :shock:

EDIT - Oh, I see, it is an extra two to the side! Doh!

Now that is interesting. Maybe in the future for me. :P

I'm gonna try demos of some of the other games mentioned in this forum to get more reliable comparision. I'll see what it does in 3-screen and 5-screen modes and then post some screenshots and fps tables I think.

One thing I will say is the spare room I'm running this setup in is HOT. 5 21" Dell CRTs push some heat. This is definitely a fall-winter-spring only setup with the window open to offset the temps in the room.

I'm a MMO gamer 90% of the time...hence what I usually post screenshots of. :wink:

Thought I'd post my PowerDesk-SE settings from another thread here since it made sense to consolidate all the data into this thread...

Matrox PowerDesk-SE works like a champ with this hybrid setup.
Configure Desktop Divider:
Display 1: Width: 1, Height: 1
Display 2: Width: 3, Height: 1
Display 3: Width: 1, Height: 1

The [config] section of my SoftTHb106 cfg file settings:

[config]
; deviceIDLeft/right: Direct3D device ID's of left and right monitor.
; secondaryWidth/Height: Left/right monitor resolution, set to -1 to use same as middle screen resolution
; secondaryRefresh: Refresh rate of left/right monitors
; secondary16bpp: Use 16bit colour in left and right monitors, this cuts the required bandwidth in half
; antialiasing: Level on anti-aliasing, use this instead of driver enforced setting
; anisotropic: Level of anisotropic filtering, you can also use driver enforced setting
; borderSize: Size of frame border between monitors that is discarded
; useMultihead: Uses multihead features of primary card if available, can increase performance and reduce memory use
deviceIDLeft=2
deviceIDright=1
secondaryWidth=1280
secondaryHeight=1024
secondaryRefresh=100
secondary16bpp=1
antialiasing=0
anisotropic=0
borderSize=0
sideExtraWidth=-2560
useMultihead=0

One card runs the TH2G, other runs the 2 outer monitors.
