I have a 1920x1080 native res monitor.

Is is somehow possible to force an ultrawide res(like 3840 x 1080) on my monitor?

I know it won't be actually showing the 3840 width res but I would expect it to scale to 1920 width and the height would scale accordingly to 1920x540(?) or so, having black bars on top and bottom of screen.

Sorry if in wrong section but wasn't sure where to put the question. Running ATI 6970 btw.

Im sure some games support this, like GTA 4 on windowed mode.

Hmm...well I was wanting a way to force high res on all games, not just a few.

So no one has tried this?

There is no way to fake Eyenfinity to run on 1 monitor for example?

I seriously doubt it. What you are talking about is drastically changing the aspect ratio, so it would be like having a 1920x1080 monitor display ~1920x320. That's not a resolution that exists in the monitor's firmware so unless you can maybe rewrite the firmware, it's not happening. Not to mention that it would look dumb anyway, since you will have a ridiculous fisheye effect. The only reason this works with three monitors is that the stretching occurs on the side monitors, i.e., in your peripheral vision.

I swear there was either a FAQ or a forum thread somewhere on this site that detailed how to do it for certain games... can't find it now.

EDIT: I think this is it: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6570

You can do it on most games that get resolutions from your desktop. I used to do it all the time when testing for DRs.

Try adding 1920x480, 1920x600, and 1920x640 custom resolutions to your desktop.
