Thinking about switching to an ultrawide and dumping my 3 monitor setup. Thinking it will make life much easier' lose a little gain a little. Anyone else done this? How do you compare it? Personally I won't miss bezel correction issues and all the extra cables. And of course less load on the GPU I'd assume. Cheers. |

Ultrawide = 21:9 IMHO not enough to replace a 48:9 setup. Me i'm currently using a 32:9 Monitor, 49" 3840x1080 pixel. Same as 2x 27" 16:9 Monitors. It's not that much of a difference compared to my previous 3x 23" 16:9. I'm sitting roughly 0.9-1.1m away from the Monitor so it almost perfectly fills my Field of Vision, for gaming when you're concentrating yourself on the center you don't really feel any difference. Been using 3x 16:9 as main display and 21:9 as secondary for a few years, realized I ended up using the secondary as main... I sold my soul to triple-screens a long time ago, so that was quite the existential crisis. My solution was to dump TripleWide for TripleUltrawide 21:9 remains my go-to aspect ratio, though. For desktop use I have to admit, three fullscreen 16:9 windows are hard to beat; but two square windows, side-by-side on the same panel, and controllable with Win+arrow keys are a very efficient alternative. For all uses, bezels that are far apart and not right in front of your eyes are a huge plus, anyway. If you have the feeling the grass will be greener on the ultrawide side, you should definitely jump the fence. Should you really miss the splendours and miseries of True Surround Gaming, you can always triple the fun later |

Thanks for the responses guys, I can also see the advantage of bringing non optimized UI elements in a little closer than they are now. Have to turn your head to see them at this time. |

That's a nice sophisticated setup, I can see how UltraWide could "streamline" it quite a bit. Dump Surround AND the TV, keep a 16:10 monitor in portrait mode for surfing/typing/coding, use a damn coaster... Lots of exciting prospects. |

Ironic; there is a coaster 12" away. You make some good points there. Okay then, what ultrawide to get then....Curved? Flat? Is Gsync worth the extra scratch? Using a GTX1080 at this time. Budget is around 5, but could go a bit more if the gain is worth it. |

G-Sync is worth it if you never, ever plan on switching to team red. You pay for extra circuitry that does a better job than the Free alternative, plain and simple. As for the curve, it does make a difference on 34"+ panels. That's a bigass rectangle lying in front of your tiny face. Without curvature in the right amount it feels a bit off, the center's too close and the corners too far to really take it all in comfortably. Beware of 3000R, it's basically "expensive flat". 1900-1800R is the best, 1500R seems a bit too much for the perspective trick to work naturally and not damage the picture. Most current models are 1900R anyway. |

Well, got a good price on a Dell Alienware 21-9 4k So I actually finally made the switch. Very happy with my choice. 4k is freeking amazing and I get better frames with the 4k ultrawide than I did with the 3 1920x1200's. Thanks for the advice guys. Cheers, Jim |
