Post subject:  NV 2D Surround DX9 Portrait Mode Not Functioning

As the title says, the current 2D Surround solution does not scale as it should under 3x1 Portrait Mode under DX9. Here's the bug report that was filed to Nvidia explaining the problem:

This is a report on the back of 5 days of testing over a range of DX9 Games, where under surround portrait mode there seems to be a cap to the fps which does not change regardless of the graphic settings in-game, i.e., the fps stays at 54 at either maximum or minimum in-game graphics settings, regardless of the map played.

Here's a rough breakdown:

Modern Warfare 2, Landscape: 120fps, Portrait: 54fps;
Team Fortress 2, Landscape: 140fps, Portrait: 54fps;
CS:Source, Landscape: 150fps, Portrait: 54fps;
Assassin's Creed 2, Landscape: 150fps, Portrait: 54fps;

All of the DX9 titles tested are functioning well under Landscape, in line with the performance expected out of a pair of GTX460.

The above problems do not occur with DX11 games, such as Dirt2, Bad Company 2, etc, i.e., both Portrait Mode and Landscape Mode are scaling as they should with fps that fluctuates with the activity and map during gameplay.

Incidentally I also own a pair of 5870 2GB and crossfire simply does not kick in for DX9 games under 3 X 1 Portrait Mode. However the ATI solution can default to single card operation unlike Nvidia's whereby SLI is needed for the system to function in surround mode.

Just a heads up to all thinking about going Portrait Surround, and that vast majority of current popular titles and upcoming releases are mostly still DX9.

Please add to the thread if you also run in portrait and shares the same problem.
