Before I get going, I want to mention that I just built my gaming pc ~ 2 months ago.
Well, for the past couple months I've been running 3- Samsung P2540 monitors in Eyefinity through a single XFX HD 5870. I just love surround gaming, but the single 5870 wasn't cutting it. I wanted the eye candy in Bad Company 2 and Metro 2033, not to mention Crysis 2 which is coming out soon.
So while wanting to upgrade my card, I also wanted to go 3D. I was looking around hoping for an ati solution, but a couple members suggested going the nvidia route.
So long story short, I ordered 2- Gigabyte GTX 480's. And of course this also required a larger psu, larger case, and a new mobo. Now, because of what I just spend a couple months ago building this rig, buying these upgrades was about all I could get for now.
So my parts arrived Wednesday and I was able to get the pc up and running.
Wednesday morning I was looking at all the toys ups just dropped off and knew I couldn't wait. So I jumped online and ordered an Acer gd235hz and the nvidia 3d vision glasses kit (I just didn't tell the wife).
Those arrived today. I got everything setup and started out with BC2. Of course I was limited to playing on a single monitor, but wow is it impressive. And then I tried Metro. That took a little Googling to get it running right, but with the same results. I am just really impressed with how good the 3d vision looks. I even did some bc2 multiplayer. That took a little getting use to with the crosshairs "floating" out in front, but I actually did pretty good.
Now I need 2 more Acers. I put my 3 Sams, 5870, and displayport adapter up on Craigslist and Ebay. So once I sell those off I'll be able to order the other 2 monitors.
