1) So some quick results from Metro Last Light Benchmark.

GTX 780 Overclocked - Average 30 fps, fan quiet (1084MHz GPU, 75 degrees)
GTX 780 Stock - Average 25 fps, fan quiet
GTX 470 x 2 SLI - Average 19 fps, fans LOUD

Options: Resolution: 5104 x 1050; DirectX: DirectX 11; Quality: Very High; Texture filtering: AF 16X; Advanced PhysX: Enabled; Motion Blur: Normal; SSAA: OFF;

My case sure does look empty with only one card, so added some more usb ports on a pci card.

The difference from 19 fps to 30 fps of course is quite noticeable, and in game I have gone from average (using Fraps) 28-32 to 45-50 fps, almost at the sweet spot of 60, but feels much smoother, and of course much quieter and cooler.

2) Bioshock Infinite, cranked up everything to Ultra (after using these fixes:

and the game runs smooth (45 fps) and has more of a "wow" factor graphically.

3) Crysis Warhead Enthusiast mode runs well.

I say moderately impressed, because $650 should blow me away. In hindsight, I would probably have gone for 2 x GTX 770 at $820. But one card should hold me until Christmas, then can add another 780, and then I will be properly impressed.

Overclock so far stable, played 2 hours each game with no artifacts, problems or fan noise.

P.S. I also do notice that my office is not as hot as before, so will save on A/C.

Well, the 780 is a little Titan! The 770 on the other hand is a simple 680.
So you're better of with a 780, memory interface. And no SLI problems /Stutter

Update: Using EVGA Precision X to overclock (1110 Mhz) when in 3D mode and every game runs great, no issues there. This card is fast and quiet.

Only issue I have been having is my pc BSOD's when left idle for long periods of time. The BSOD code points towards video card, so I tried the newer Beta drivers 320.49, but still continued to happen perhaps every other day.

Just now I ran a bios update on the video card, hopefully that will resolve the issue.

And, you're using a single 780? Or is this in SLI?

Single 780. Impressive and quiet card, a bit pricey! So far no BSOD's since firmware update yesterday, pc woke up just fine this morning.

It would appear there is a now known issue (took them two months to admit it) with some users experiencing a black screen freeze every 36 hours after a fresh boot. Took me a while, but I finally noticed the pattern (after close to 30 hard reboots required). Nvidia is aware of the problem but have not found a solution yet. So every other day, hard reboot.

Gaming performance is still great, played Far Cry 3 all day yesterday without a problem.

1) Was still getting black screens in the morning and occaisonal nvlddmkm errors so:
a) Updated to beta drivers 326.19
b) Added registry key to prevent Windows from assuming the video card has crashed and restarting the video driver, I think this has been the reason for improvement so far:

2) Installed Hitman Absolution, and with max/ultra settings and no overclock, game did not run well. I had turned off overclock (EVGA Precision X) while troubleshooting nvlddmkm errors. I re-enabled the overclock (862 -> 1100) and it made all the difference, now the game is playable at max/ultra.

3) New quirks:
a) Since upgrading to 326.19 drivers, when I first launch many programs, they go full screen across all three screens, if I restore down / restore up, they maximize correctly to one screen. There is always something!
b) EVGA Precision X randomly closes itself (not during a game) and won't relaunch until a reboot. So I am still having to reboot way more often than before the upgrade.
