Hi,

I have a Geforce 8600 GT.. and I want to get a 4 monitor setup - not for gaming, just for desktop.

I have wasted money on PCI cards that dont work with my 8600 GT, which is why I'm now asking you guys for help.

I don't have an SLI mobo, so from my understanding of reading this forum, this is what I need to do:

- The 8600 gives 2 of the screen outputs, and the others are achieved with 2 more PCI cards
- The PCI cards must be compatible with the nvidia 8600 driver

So my questions really is, which pci cards would you recommend to me for this?

I'd appreciate it very much if anyone could advise me.

Thanks

you dont need an SLI board ... as long as you have two PCI-e (x16 or x1) slots, you can install two cards

dont waste money on PCI card, they are expensive and most of them dont use modern drivers.

as far as I am aware (I use ati cards), nvida series 6,7 and 8 uses a common driver

I guess all of you questions are answered

There are many ways to get to use 4 monitors.

- 2 pci-e cards with 2 outputs each
- special cards with 4 ouputs on one card
- dual-output card + 1 th2g
- dual-output card + 2 dh2g

In all the above, you can forget any amount of gaming. Simply using both outputs generally puts it in slideshow mode. The 4 output cards generally cost quite a bit more since they're workstation cards and tend to generally suck at anything but a desktop.

Depending what you do with em, a pci card might not be a bad idea, just don't expect gaming or any heavy 3d processing.

Not sure, but I thought there was an 8xxx pci card somewhere, if you can get a pci 8600gt maybe the drivers would work together, not sure though, never tried myself.

as you only have one PCI-E (x16) slot

there should be more than one PCI-E (x1) slot on most MB

my desktop MB only has one PCI-E (x16) slot and 2 PCI-E (x1) slots

which motherboard do you have?

Note: PCI-E (x1) card is not easy to find but there are always several cheap ones on ebay

I have a very similar setup as mentioned, no SLI mobo, but I have a digital triple head 2 go, and a gtx 295 running it. I just got a 4th monitor, but when i plug it into the remaining dvi socket on the video card, I can't get it to come on. After trying a few times, it seems both of the links on the dual link graphics card are used by the one port on the board via the dth2g, and I need some form of supplemental card to drive the 4th monitor?

please help me i want 4! :)
