There have been working models of SED shown to the public.
OK, if that's so, that covers the prototype anyway. Then why is there still no production models? It's been in the works for decades. Sony already beat them to production with an OLED, not that it's better tech, but at least it's out there.

That tells me either the cost of production was too high, or they couldn't get enough interest from investors and/or partners. Part of the problem is the economy the way it is now makes the timing bad for releasing drastically new tech.

There was a HUGE patent lawsuit by a small company. I'm surprised you didn't hear about it. The patent issue was cleared up, but the tech was delayed long enough that it might be the nail in the coffin for SED. It wasn't an investment issue either, Canon dumped very literally billions of dollars into SED, only to have the patent issue prevent them from releasing consumer displays. Last I heard, they were going to try to market SED as a professional display.

If that's the case, the tech isn't even worth mentioning as far as hopefuls to hit the market soon, or at all at the consumer level. I stay abreast of relevant info, this isn't something that apparently even had a chance of going mainstream, so I don't exactly feel out of the loop by not knowing. The less useless info in my head the better.

I am hoping for a PLED to be made soon.
