Double post, I know, I'm naughty. :P

nVidia can do 64x Anti-Aliasing with GTX295 Quad-SLI.

That's nuts, in an extremely awesome way. Not really a feasible proposition for most of us widescreeners, as we tend to play at rather high resolutions... but for those with lower res screens, it'll mean that buying something like that wouldn't be a total waste of GPU power.

(Of course, if anyone spent $1000 on GPUs, but then didn't buy at least a 24" screen... they're really just spending money for the sake of saying 'I've got quad-SLI!' ;))

I'll admit (in my obvious bias against nVidia) that I'd like to get a GTX295. It's not really until 2560x1600 that the memory limitations (wrt size/bandwidth) start to show so it'd be ideal for 1920x1200. It's all down to price... if it's £50 or more cheaper than the 4870X2, I'll probably try to get one. If not... I'll wait a bit longer.

I can't notice the difference after 4x AA as it is, let alone 64x.

OCUK had the 280GTX for £230 and it took a lot of willpower not to buy one. I want to wait to see what happens with these new guys.

For £230, I'd be buying two. That's like £90 cheaper than pretty much everywhere else. Then I'd either be finding an socket 775 SLI board, or sticking them in two different systems.

edit: They're sold out, so I'll wait and see what the 295 is like with the proper reviews. :)

I'm just happy with the current price breaks on the 200 series stuff with the new hardware being introduced. It allowed me to finally get a 260. I can now offload my 8800's to my folding farm. If Windows 7 would now only add back in span modes all would be right in the world.

Aye.

If the GTX260's would drop back to £165 like they were in September, I'd buy two of them and be more than happy. But as it stands, the cheapest is £212. :( For that sort of price, I might as well order the £230 GTX280. ;)

Ick, I got my 260 for $157 USD. :D

You're making me jealous. :P

I'd buy three and try Tri-SLI if I could get them that cheap. That's like £100 each!

Does anybody have any idea when we will actually be able to buy the next line of GFX cards from nvidia? I've heard something is going down at CES but beyond that I've not a clue.

Also I'm starting to seriously debate whether I should grab a 280 when the price plummets from the debut of the next series or just plain get the 295 since I can't do SLi.
