So I am just curious if anyone here has explored the option of finding a way to trick windows into thinking that your 3 screens are actually 1 big screen.
The reason I am thinking about this is that since I run (and love) my 20x30x20 PLP setup, and SoftTh is great, but only works on some titles, and still does not support DX10 or DX11,
I am just wondering if there is some way to hack windows to see all 3 screens as 1 big screen. It seems to me that if this was possible, we would not have to rely on programs like SoftTh.
Im sure that I just don't fully understand how this works, but thought I would ask around here.
:~ Nvidia surround or ati eyefinity. both will now do triple screen for gaming and more. dx 10, 11 and higher resolutions,
I play at 6080x1080 accross 3 screens. Not every game will work, but most will. some out of the box or with a bit of tweaking.

It is possible to do this with AMD Eyefinity and Nvidia Surround, and it works for all aplications not just games, however as already stated neither of these currently support PLP setups, only all protrait or all landscape modes are scurrently supported.
ok, I guess i should have been more specific. I know all about Eyefinity, and Surround, and SoftTH which I currently use.
My thought was if there is a way to do this in windows, instead of via the card sw/driver.
I guess what i am looking for is some other way get PLP to work, instead of waiting for AMD or Nvidia (which I dont think will ever happen) or an update to SoftTh.

So after thinking more about this, here is what i am thinking...
A monitor presents itself to windows as a "device", so what about a small device (similar to a matrox) that would take a single connection from the card, and have 3 outputs to 3 monitors. The fw on the card will recognize the 3 monitors and thier respective resolutions, and present the 3 screens as 1 singular device with a cumulative resolution to windows. (4906x1600 for example is my PLP). This would be diffrent from matrox as I beleive it presents multiple devices.
Then all that windows and the GPU know is a single monitor with that high resolution is available. The GPU puts out the image, and the device does what softth does and splits the single image, and pushed the sections to the correct monitors.
Here is a couple of examples of the configurations supported by the X4...
The x4 presents to windows a single large monitor, then it splits up the image to each monitor, with each monitor supporting individual, croping, rotation, overlapping, bezel correctrion, up/down scaling as well as a refresh rate convertor, the only down side is that the x4 has a limited input resolution size, this I believe is down to the bandwidth limitations of the DVI input.
By reducing the FPS/refresh rate on the pc to 30 you can essentially double the max output resolution, or you could keep the fps/refresh at 60, and upscale the image to fill the monitors.
Ultimately it depends on what resolution you wish to run at, but this is a very flexable device.
We use a series of these for our 25monitor video wall in the reception of our office.
Looks like it is what is needed, however it also looks to be limited to 1920x1080
that is really unfortunate... If they could support 4960x1600 I think every 20x30x20 PLP user would get one
I have already been in dicussions earlier today with Datapath to potentialy release a Displayport version that would resolve that issue, if there is enough interest for such a device.
