If you do a search you will find numerous threads on the subject. The only thing you can get in BF2 is a higher resolution by putting it in your shortcut's command line. Widescreen is NOT supported and FOV (Field Of View) meaning a picture larger than normal, where you can see more, cannot be achieved accept with the help of a "Hack" that a member here has developped on his own. But this "Hack" gets you kicked off Ranked server with Punkbuster since it modifies some files, and that's a no no...

Look at the BF2 threads for more info.

Unlikley...EA/DICE says that not enough players have widescreen to implement it....

That is a weak excuse. By that logic, games should not use advanced Shader model 3.0 effects as a majority of computers are not equipped with cards capable of displaying this. If developers only cater to the lowest common denominator, then there will be no innovation.

You still suck EA.

BF2142 works exactly like BF2 when it comes to widescreen resolutions, i.e. the view frustrum is gimped vertically, and the same horizontally.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 215TW. 21" WS, native res 1680x1050.
I had to change the commandline used to start BF2 to:

"BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

The game itself will then run in WS res but not the menu.

Note that in the "Confirmed Solutions" section for BF2142 the word
"widescreen" isnt included, not sure if thats correct or not since I havent
tried BF2142 yet.

Yeah but doesn't that just make the game run in widescreen res... with no FOV change?

I have a question.. When you force +szx 1680 +szy 1050 in the command line do you get 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio?
