yeah so im pretty sure everyone tried/has catalyst 9.7 official from amd/ati website.

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

as for me, cat. 9.7 still has scaling issues with my monitors (horizontal black blank spots), as what markb said in a previous thread - catalyst 9.6 and 9.7 still had issues with some ati gpus running 5040x1050, and catalyst 9.5 has original fixed issues for 5040x1050. catalyst 9.5 did work for me running 5040x1050 tho i had scrolling/panning issues with these monitors, these monitors do have a native resolution of 1680x1050.. i just cant seem to get it right!!

ive decided today that im replacing my monitors (acer x193w+) with bigger 20" + sizes. i know theres alot of u guys out there having 5040x1050 fully functional on your 4870X2's.. however i know its my monitors holding me back.

any suggestions to what monitors i should get?? after everyones help here at widescreenforum, ive diagnosed the problem being my monitors.. so im done trying to find a fix/workaround.

ppl with 4870x2's - if u guys could please post what catalyst version + working monitors/lcds here so i can get an idea of what to get, id fully appreciate it!!

most of all id like to thank everyone for the help and your thoughts and diagnostics about my system not handling the sweet 5040x1050 res!!

Worked fine for me.

Installed 9.7

Installed new firmware for the matrox device

Installed powerdesk

Went through setup wizard for it and it picked out 5040x1050 for me just fine.

Did you try it in that order at all?

[Edit]

Im using dell 2290wa monitors

i havent tried that nope.

so u suggest i uninstall everything that u mentioned to install in order?

my monitors do fall under problematic category sections under compatibility with 5040x1050 thread... altho right when new firmware for 5040x1050 @ 59hz came out, it finally worked but with black horizontal blank spots... which came to mind that if it didnt work at all with previous firmwares and finally works with new firmware then it HAS to work somehow... catalyst 9.5 works at 5040x1050 but showing the desktop with scrolling/panning effect - really annoying and with catalyst 9.6 and 9.7, it doesnt do the scrolling effect but has the blank spots - really frustrating.

but yeah i'll uninstall everything and install everything in order as u mentioned.. im pretty sure its my monitors

Let us know how you get on, its really nice to see the desktop in a proper resolution now instead of 3842x1024.. doesnt look so forced and distorted :)

I wonder if it would work at 57hz or something? Maybe try to manually set it using powerstrip or something?

Anyone got any other ideas? Would be a shame to have to replace the monitors.

Upgraded to 9.7 as soon as I heard it was out. First issue I encountered was Vista not recognizing 5040x1050 automatically.. Once I reinstalled the matrox firmware for whatever reason Vista detected it once again.

9.7 seems to atleast fixed more of the issues, as now Fallout 3 will run at 5040x1050 (where previously it was corrupted to hell). Yet to try out many other games but Crysis warhead seems to be slightly smoother too. I dunno if MarkB was only referencing the beta drivers but overall 9.7 seems a hell of an improvement.

Dunno what I can recommend you try to fix those black bars.. Its very bizzare. I can only presume its an issue with them, have you tried playing with the monitors H and V position? See if you cant stretch it?

Otherwise.. I can only recommend the Samsung 22" 2243BW or 24" 2443BW. Using them and I am utterly impressed by there quality.

yeah its weird i tried stretching it but its already maxed out to the left where it wont let me stretch/move it to fit screen size, its definitely my monitors oh lol i did try regular trinitron monitors - no problem running 1680x1050 each, its just frustrating theres no way i can fix this... only way is to replace them!!!!
