I like it a lot. It works perfect. No games or friends were deleted.

They also use WebKit for the web rendering engine now instead of IE. <3

:D

It's great.

I used the compact games list before but honestly I don't care if it's missing because I don't exactly leave Steam visible on the screen at all times to see the games. If I go to the games list it's to launch a game and then close the list. The in-game overlay is awesome.

They are probably going to add that back in, there's a very large number of people that want it.

You can get the game list we are use to seeing by going to (edit) *list* view and then right-clicking the title bar and unselecting image.

:)

But it's still a huge window, rather than the small box.

On my laptop I don't have the screen real-estate necessary for Steam to be a huge window, as the res is quite low. That said, I kinda like the beta, but I'd like the compact view back. I'd also like offline mode in the normal client to work again. "Fixed" my arse... they broke the workaround that was viable in the 19th Feb update, though. Select "Offline Mode" and get "Could not connect to Steam network, check your internet connection" well... no shit... "offline" shouldn't need to connect to steam networks. Bakayarou.

I found a couple of bugs - some of the graphics of the games aren't the little banners - Audiosurf, for example, is a tiny, tiny icon in the 'banner'.

Just realized the in-game overlay is much, much improved. That alone makes me almost want to buy games on Steam again.

Almost.

Of course there's bugs.

It's beta.

Here's an example:

Either it's lying or I'm amazing at compressing time.

Bugs like that are fairly minor. It's got some megabugs in it, too. Still, it's pretty good. It'll be awesome once it has the compact view again. :D

Tried the new UI for BFBC2 beta and Guild Wars, and a few seconds of L4D2. I have noticed after their latest update which was supposed to fix offline mode or something that the text isn't rendering right when using the Steam overlay. There doesn't seem to be any issue with it outside the game, which is to be expected. Of course there's the first-time issue of having to turn off automatic proxy detection over LAN for Steam's use of the IE engine. But I haven't seen anything that really breaks it... yet.

The new UI is finally something refreshing for a change. I just wish that they'd make creating Steam UI skins more easier to create so there would be a lot more to choose from. Having that dated green, grey, or whatever color is really getting old. I don't hate it nor do I love it. But at the very least, it's something different. Takes a few minutes to adjust, if you've used Steam a lot. Nothing completely different at least.

They don't use IE anymore. They now use WebKit, the best web engine available. :D

I don't know about the ease of creating skins, but they added a ton of options for skin-makers now.

Also, all of those rumors about a Mac OS X Steam seem pretty dumb. They included the three button icons that are used on OSX titlebars for minimizing, closing, etc. There's no reason to include these icons with applications because these are OS-controlled when you make OSX applications. They don't include a copy of those icons in every app made.

The reason for including those icons is simple. They're for a OSX-like skin for Windows. They have absolutely nothing to do with OSX itself.
