Recently i m planning to build a homebuilt cockpit to run flight simulator x with 3 projectors for view from cockpit and 9 touchscreen LCDs for panels. Initially i was considering sandy bridge i7 cpu, but afterward i gave it up due to the chipset design problem. Now i got my preliminary list as follows:

Intel Core i7 950 (3.06GHz)/LGA 1366/8M Cache CPU BOX
ASUS RAMPAGE III FORMULA X58,DDR3,LGA 1366,USB3.0,SATA3 6Gb/s ATX M/B
Kingston KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX DDR3 1600 12G Kit (4Gx3) 3-Channel Pack
WD Caviar Raid 1003FBYX 1TB SATA II/64MB HDD (RE4 / 7x24)
Pioneer DVR-219LBK 24X DVD Writer /Label Flash/SATA
3 x Sapphire HD6950 w/HDMI+DVIx2+MiniDPx2 PCI-E 2GB DDR5
ANTEC TPQ1200OC 1200W OverClock 80Plus Silver
COOLER MASTER HAF-X Full ATX Tower Case USB3.0(RC-942-KKN1)
Cooler Master V6GT(RR-V6GT-22PK-R1) CPU Fan
2 x Cooler Master CF-R4-LUS-10AB-GP 20CM Case Fan

My obsession is the possibility of running 3 HD6950s with 12 video outputs in practice, assuming that each card bears 4 outputs (1 projector and 3 touchscreens). Is the allocation okay? Should i set a 3-way crossfire to run 3 projectors in eyefinity? Will i7 950 be a significant bottleneck of 6950s performance and what else should i particularly pay attention for? Any advise will be highly appreciated. :bowdown

My understanding of Crossfire is that only the outputs on the main card are usable in a Crossfire setup. IE you can't have your cards configured in Crossfire and use the video outs on all three cards.

^ this is true.

You'll be rendering everything off of one video card.
Most likely, you'll be using a lot of windows too as this wont work in fullscreen.

Correct.

EDIT: Now running it well? That's to be seen.

thx all! :bowdown
i hv just bought the pc and 6 acer t231h touchscreen monitors for the first stage trial. i plugged all 6 dvi cables into 3 hd6950 without running crossfire to display all mon in extend mode(1 main desktop and 5 extend desktop). when i launched fsx and dragged the fsx panels into different mon i found only the main display card was rendering.

so now i m considering 2 hd6950 crossfire to display the graphics demanding cockpit view (3 projectors and 1 normal lcd mon) and 1 hd6950 for other 6 touchscreen mon. The hd6950 got 2 dvi, 2 mini dp and 1 hdmi, is there any method to fit all 6 touchmon into those sockets??
