I just upgraded from a pair of ATI 6950s to a pair of 680s.

The good: Solid 60FPS in games, and Vsync works! (It was broken before)

The bad: No sound. The HDMI audio device displays properly in control panel and appears to function as far as the computer is concerned, by I get no audio. If I disable SLI/surround, it works. What's up? This is if I use the native HDMI jack or a (properly) converted DVI port.

Not heard of this issue before, I use the motherboard sound card digital out rather than using the digital out via the gpu.

Note that DVI does not carry audio at all, even if "properly" converted, DVI never carries the audio signal.

One thing you could try is to select the audio device in the "playback devices" list which can be selected by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system tray.
It could be that as the extended to surround changes it changes the playback device?

Could you not just use the motherboard output?

1: All ATI and Nvidia cards made in the past few years carry an audio signal through their DVI ports. This is how I used digital audio on my ATI cards prior. The Nvidia software recognizes my Receiver as a digital audio device when plugged in through DVI. My 680s have native HDMI ports so I don't need to do this, but tried it to troubleshoot.

2: Nvidia automatically sets up 6 HDMI audio outs in Playback devices, one for each possible audio port. (2x DVI, 1xHDMI per card). When my receiver is plugged in and activated properly in the nvidia control panel, my receiver's name appears in place of one of these. Under configure and properties, it appears to function normally, however I get no sound, and the receiver doesn't seem to recognize the input. As far as Windows is concerned, my Receiver is working properly.

3: Downloading my motherboard's HDMI drivers now; going to try your suggestion. I want to say I ran into issues with this before, but don't recall what they were.

1 more thing to check is the supported formats as shown in my attached image, does that help?

Didn't find anything to resolve it in the supported format list. It's just a list for me, not options. However, the onboard VGA's audio out's working. Should be good to go; thanks. I'm still curious about why the Nvidia cards weren't handling it properly. I'd love to hear from someone who has surround/HDMI audio working together.

Audio aside, the new cards are fantastic.
