The beta of the first patch for Doom 3 has been released.

http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/doom3/d3_1_05_beta.exe.html

As promised, it adds support for choosing 4:3, 16:9, and 16:10 aspect ratios. I'm downloading it as I type this, and hopefully it will give us a true, non-distorted widescreen.

I've just got a Dell 2005FPW, which is a lovely screen aside from some backlight bleed problems.

But, I can't get Doom 3 to work with widescreen. I've patched it to 1.1, but there are no W/S option in the setup menus anywhere. Nothing on the advanced page either.

I tried changing the cfg file but Doom just completely ignored it?

Any ideas? I even tried re-installing and patching again, but get the same results.

Try setting the .cfg file to read only.

You must first run the Auto Detect in options to set things for your system.
Then ... restart the game.
When you exit you can now do any changes to the cfg and they should be kept.

These are the important lines to change ...

Set these two to the resolution you want ...
seta r_customHeight "????"
seta r_customWidth "????"

This allows custom resolutions ...
seta r_mode "-1"

This sets the screen ratio ... set it to suit your resolution.
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

You should not have to alter the FOV.
Hope this helps .... :D

Could someone post their exact cfg? I edited mine and now it says cannot display mode DVI on my monitor and I have to restart.

Thanks

I posted some pics on the screenshot section showcasing the differences between fullscreen and widescreen in this game.
