It helps to change the ratio from 21:9 to 43:18 (hor:ver). Seems to fix the fov., also screen placements for diffrent kind of stuff (hud, inventar,..) "eats" alot of Performance, should look/feel as it mention. Personally i don`t see a diffrence between 21:9 and 43:18 (wich may depends on my monitor, upscaled from 2560x1080 to 3440x1440), but u will notice on "alt+enter",u will be able reaching the maximum diagonal amount for FOV based on the ratio 43:18.

A key for that game would be very appreciated.

UWQHD, 1440p Ultra Wide QHD (QHD) Res.: 3440×1440 Ratio: 43:18 :
Removes (openes) the black bars:
1.777778(float) 3FE38E39(hex aligned) "39 8E E3 3F"(binary) to 2.400000(float) 4019999A(hex aligned) "9A 99 19 40"(binary)
and
Fix the ratio (horizontal):
16.00000(float) 41800000(hex aligned) "00 00 80 41"(binary) to 43.00000(float) 422C0000(hex aligned) "00 00 2C 42"(binary)
Fix the ratio (vertical):
9.00000(float) 41100000(hex aligned) "00 00 10 41"(binary) to 18.00000(float) 41900000(hex aligned) "00 00 90 41"(binary)

QHD, 1440p Quad High Definition Res.: 3440x1440 Ratio: 21:9 :
Removes (openes) the black bars:
1.777778(float) 3FE38E39(hex aligned) "39 8E E3 3F"(binary) to 2.400000(float) 4019999A(hex aligned) "9A 99 19 40"(binary)
and
Fix the ratio (horizontal):
16.00000(float) 41800000(hex aligned) "00 00 80 41"(binary) to 21.00000(float) 41A80000(hex aligned) "00 00 A8 41"(binary)
Fix the ratio (vertical):
nothing todo here

Example based on 43:18 UWQHD 3440×1440

This is an interesting solution.
I tried it but I am stuck at having no 1.777778(float) or 9.00000(float) in my steam re7.exe
The 16.00000(float) exists.
Do you know why?

There is nothing in the world could "fix" that problem. A 3 dimensional room on a linear is allways in "perspective", combined with a field of view higher then 120° will result in this unnatural effect. Curving a display could reduce that effect again i guess, or maybe a cubed holodec. If u look at the last picture above, u will notice the beginning of that "effect" on the left door. It shall suggest "Depth" to the player.

Sure, but this is literally the first game I've seen that does this. If I search for "5760 screenshot" on google images I can't find one other game where this happens: vertical lines at the edges of the screen stay vertical, not rounded. I guess this is some kind of artistic filter/shader they decided to use for some claustrophobic effect or something. It's not an issue on "normal" aspect ratios, and wider ones are not officially supported so I guess there is not much one can do about it.

Thanks for the help.
I tracked down the values, the first two had no effect, the last one crashed the game.
I'm probably making a mistake somewhere.

Which numbers do I change for the blackbars? And what do I change to set ratio to 8:9?

Is everyone running fullscreen or borderless windowed?

Both run fine for me.

I run fullscreen when I want to play a section of the game and windowed when I am using Cheat Engine.

It's just not working on my setup.

Here's a thought: If I play at 1920x1080, I get full screen, no letterboxing. But of course the aspect ratio is messed up. Could I keep it at that resolution so I can have a full screen image, but change the aspect ratio in the .exe so that the image isn't stretched?

Is that possible? I really, really want to play fullscreen.

Basicly if u are using a tripple setting it has to multiply x3.
(16x3):9 = 48:9 (hor:ver ratio) = 5.34 (black bar fix)

The fact only the horizontal line gets "increased" for that case, it may can lead to distortion. Multiply also the vertical by 3 could help.

Image

Triple 1080p High Definition, (1920×3)x1080, (16x3)∶9 :
Removes (openes) the black bars:
1.777778(float) 3FE38E39(hex aligned) "39 8E E3 3F"(binary) to 5.340000(float) 40AAE148(hex aligned) "48 E1 AA 40"(binary)
and
Fix the ratio (horizontal):
16.00000(float) 41800000(hex aligned) "00 00 80 41"(binary) to 48.00000(float) 42400000(hex aligned) "00 00 40 42"(binary)
Fix the ratio (vertical):
nothing todo here

Alternate:

Removes (openes) the black bars:
nothing todo here
and
Fix the ratio (horizontal):
16.00000(float) 41800000(hex aligned) "00 00 80 41"(binary) to 48.00000(float) 42400000(hex aligned) "00 00 40 42"(binary)
Fix the ratio (vertical):
try multiply by 3:
9.00000(float) 41100000(hex aligned) "00 00 10 41"(binary) to 27.00000(float) 41D80000(hex aligned) "00 00 D8 41"(binary)

That sounds like it might work!

You only have to change the first HEX value, I would guess.
