::Version::
This information applies to the retail version(version 1.0) and all subsequent patches.
::Method::
This game supports widescreen resolutions using Hor+ by way of editing the settings.cfg to support your widescreen resolution.
To do this, open the file
:Documents and SettingsAll Users[Shared] DocumentsMonolith ProductionsFEARsettings.cfg
using Notepad or a suitable text editing program.
Locate the following lines:
"ScreenWidth" "xxxx"
"ScreenHeight" "yyyy"
Change "xxxx" to your horizontal resolution and "yyyy" to your vertical resolution.
For example, to change the resolution to 1680x1050 the lines would read:
"ScreenWidth" "1680"
"ScreenHeight" "1050"
Once you have edited these lines to your specific resolution, save the file and reopen the game. It should now be running in the resolution you entered. The game will automatically increase the horizontal FOV for your resolution.
Note: Do not go into the Display section of the Options menu. Doing so will reset the resolution to 640x480.
::Screen change::
The game supports widescreen via an increase in the horizontal FOV(Hor+).

::Supported resolutions::
List of widescreen resolutions the game successfully ran at: 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050
List of widescreen resolutions that were not tested: 1920x1080, 1920x1200
(Note: Nvidia has tested and confirmed this game at 1920x1200 - link.)
::Singleplayer anomalies::
This game is exclusively first person. There are no inventory screens or menus that effect gameplay. The game runs consistantly in Hor+ with no noticable singleplayer anomalies.
::Multiplayer support::
The multiplayer mode runs exactly like the singleplayer mode, in Hor+. There do not seem to be any server-side or client-side settings that prevent the game from running in Hor+.
::Aspect ratio support::
The game properly detects the aspect ratio and properly scales the FOV to match.

::HUD stretch::
The game's HUD maintains its proper position and size relative to the screen. It does not stretch in widescreen resolutions.
::Cut-scenes::
The only prerendered FMV cutscene in the game is the closeup on the eye in the intro scene. In widescreen mode, this cutscene is windowboxed, but does not appear to be properly centered.

Widescreen FMV screenshot:

Most of the cut-scenes in the game are rendered by the game engine in real time on your video card. These cut-scenes are scaled properly in Hor+, and are letterboxed in both 4:3 and widescreen resolutions to provide a cinematic effect.

::Grading::
Calculated grade: B-
Potential grade: B
Minor unresolved issues:
Did not test in 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 as my monitor does not support these resolutions.
Prerendered FMV in intro is windowboxed and off-center.
