I'm trying, and trying to play the original Kotor in widescreen. I have the UniWS and I have managed to get it to work at 1600 X 900. But I want to use 1280 X 768 resolution, but the game crashes if I try it. 1600 X 900 is just too much for this game. Has anyone managed to use 1280 X 768 resolution sucessfully yet? If so what did you do that I am not? Thanks.

Yeah unfortunately the game doesn't work with many resolutions. A lot of resolutions will simply crash. Even for the resolutions that work, several have a problem where no text will show in the lower letterbox pane when in a conversation. Since this where you pick responses it more or less makes the game unplayable. The UniWS patch is unfortunately a solution for only the few people who can run the resolutions it works with. It my case I'm limited not by performance, but by the resolutions my screen can run.

I started a thread over on Bioware's forum, asking if there's any chance they could update the game even though it's old now. So far no one else has posted in it. However, a person, who iI'm pretty sure is Bioware's employee (he didn't come out and say he is, but there's evidence to he was) private messaged me about UniWS because he wanted to take a look. So I think there is some developer interest here, but it'd be great to have some more support in the thread. They're not going to go out of their way to add widescreen support to an old game if just one guy wants it.

If you or anyone else reading this can go and throw a post in the following thread asking for widescreen support it might make a difference:

Well, the 1600 X 900 works, I just don't like it as much as I do 1280 X 768. The font and everything is just so small. I got the resolution to work on Kotor 2, but I remember having problems with that one too, and believe I just glitched it via both UniWS and the ini file into doing what I wanted. No such luck with this one yet. :evil:

I tried several different methods for 1280x768 but they all crash. Sorry. :(

What resolutions *does* it work with? I haven't played Kotor/Kotor2 since I got my WS monitor, might break it out again soon.

Well 1920 x 1200 for sure.



EDIT - KOTOR 1 that is. I am not going to touch KOTOR 2 until the content patch is out.

What content patch for Kotor2 you are referring to? There is a patch 1.02 from Lucas Arts and also a fix for the patched binary available. UniWS works fine with this.
It gives you Hor+ with stretched HUD. Works fine on 1680x1050.

Well 1920 x 1200 for sure.

1920x1080 also works 100%

1360x768 will run, but has the conversation text problem so it's more or less unusable.

This is the one game for which I regret having a 1360x768 display :(

I can run it at 1920x1080 as 1080i, but it look like crap due to both the scaling and the de-interlacing.

for those who may have problems UNIWS-patching a cracked exe
- with me, the game always just crashed -
try to lowering anti aliasing an and anisotropic filtering both to 4
the game doesn't crash now

I think anti aliasing 16 in resolution 1680*1050 was over the top :)
