You happen to be running avast for an antivirus? I've recently found that for whatever reason avast is the cause for just about all my game crashes. I had constant crashes from just about any game, now that avast is uninstalled I haven't crashed once in the same manner. Oh and just turning it off isn't a test, it didn't help, only uninstall did.

Yeah I totally agree. I'm really mad at them for not programming proper widescreen.

I guess i'll have to stay with the default FOV... :x

There was a statement about it somewhere, but you don't seriously believe it was designed with 4:3 as the default. The whole thing about the Xbox360 is 720p which is 16:9. Pretty much about every single game that's on the 360 is designed for 16:9. The same goes for the PS3 with 720p and 1080i/p. Both are 16:9.

It makes sense.

Although it still looks better with a 90.40 FOV on 16:10 ;)

Each user will have their own preference. ;)

I think Gears of War is fine by default, but something like Stranglehold is wayyyyy zoomed in. Even Call of Duty 4 uses a default FOV of 65. :o

Each engine is coded differntly, for all we know FOV of 50 in one game is the same as 90 FOV in some other game.

I was in shock and awe last night. Before playing campaign, I summoned up the 'courage' to play it on-line with no prior experience. I got my ass handed to me for the first couple of rounds, but by the time I played my last round, I was second place out of six with 9 kills (short rounds). Do you know what was better than that? The fact that it runs on high (textures on very high) at 3840x1024 at a steady 52-62fps. Wow.

Assuming that fov 80 was designed for 16:9 is wrong, since GoW is messed up on the X360 in exactly same way as Bioshock and UT3 Demo on PC. U can check out the epic gow forums, a guy made a comparison and on 4:3 there is more vertical info on X360.

Believeing isnt the right question here. Sure a guy would assume they program on a 720p machine, but most likely they still use a 22" CRT with 4:3 res. Thats in fact is the default FOV->ratio and not 16:9.

So u probably need to rethink your calc, since its just a calculated value.. Did u actualy test all those settings on a pc and compare the viewable angles? The guy who sad fov 90 felt better on a 16:9 is probably totally right. With your calc value it would be like 78 which is smaller than the default one, which would make no sense for me, since its zoomed in too much already.
