You will not be able to use the hack on the Steam version executable because it's packed. You'll have to use a No-CD executable.

@BooTx i have a strange problem.I cannot make Uniws to work with Comamndos 3.I mean i point directory but i cannot modify the resolution in two boxes.Commandos2,nfs un2 work perfect.I am very glad for Commandos 2.But how to make things with 3?

I wanted to try manual hexediting but i dont know the numbers for resolutions that i want (1280x960 and 1600X1200).I want this to be my final method.I prefer to work with program....

I try both ,original game and patched to 1.42,both retailed of coures, not steam. It just didnot allow me to write resolutions.Bug in prgram or what? Here is my patch files maybe i mistake somewhere

http://www.mediafire.com/?lrignyyld2xl4s0

If it possible i want to edit v1.42 of the game.
Thanks in advance.

I fixed the things.Problem was that when i search for values in hex editor i search lines the @BooTx war written(Offset 00164bc0 for example) and watch only first values from the line.I just must search "around" because 20 03 was not exactly at the start of line.In fact these Offset 00164bc0 and 00164c60 ware different to me.Just search for part of line "20 03 00 00 eb 0c ba 00 04 00" and find it.Other thing is that in search box i cannot paste values copied from the post.I must write it manually :o .First time using hexeditor... Anyway everything is fine now.

BIG thanks to @BooTx for that tutorial and helping me on PM.Commandos are one of my favourite games, now in big resoltion ave just great!

I tried with both no-cd's v1.00 and v.1.42 and they work. Here are the other files(INTERFAZ and INTENDENCIA edited for resolution that i use and values for them

1024X768 - 00 04 x 00 03

1280X960 - 00 05 X C0 03

1024x768
1280x960

Both resolution work fine.I did not try 1600x1200 because everything in game will be so tiny and uncomfortable to play.

The only reason I can think of is that your specific executable differed slightly from the one I used so the strings didn't match. I'm sure I could make it more universal by using a string that wasn't quite so specific (long) but oh well. If you take a look at your executable you can compare the strings and see where they differ, then you can edit the patches.ini file accordingly.

If you don't know, xoffset and yoffset are there to tell UniWS where the resolution codes are in the string provided. So for example if I put in a string that says 20030000c3b85802 then the xoffset would be 0 since 2003 (800) is right at the beginning and yoffset would be 6 since 5802 (600) is six bytes into the string (20, 03, 00, 00, c3, and b8 being the previous six). Occur lets UniWS know how many times to look for and edit the string in the program, so if there's more than one occurrence of the same string that needs to be changed, you can tell it to do it all at once.

If the strings actually are the same then I don't know why it wouldn't work, as long as the executable is called Commandos3.exe and isn't set to read-only.

Oh and you can't post in that thread because replies are disabled for that section of the forum (to keep it neater I suppose). This is the correct forum for discussing the fixes.

Here is one of the strings. As you see it is same like yours(this is v1.42).I understand now how pathes.in and hex editor work but i cant see why unwise.exe did not want to work.Values in .ini file seems right to me...Filename is correct, and its not read-only.Here is screenshot if you need.

Only the Offset or line number(dont know which is correct) is different from yours.

Ah but it is different. Where mine goes 24 85 e4 4c 56 00, yours goes 24 85 e4 5d 56 00. That should be your problem. Fix it in the patches.ini file and you should be good to go (assuming the other string is correct - make sure you check closely).

It looks that there is more mistakes in first string.I find 3 or 4 ,fix it but still dont work.I tried to manualy rewrite the numbers, still no luck. Here is what i done

00c3b800040000c3b800050000c3c45c5600ca5c5600d05c5600d65c5600909090908b4948b8e001000083f90377leff248dlc5d5600b8e0010000c3b85802

20030000eb0cba00040000eb05ba00050083f803b9e0010000773fff2485e45d56008b442404b9e100008910894804c204008b442404b95802

here is and pictures of both.

and here is my edited.ini file with values that i fix
http://www.mediafire.com/?1yovv3tvijdwyl4

If you manage to find error or maybe other things to .ini file must be change to work according this new values, and if you want ,fix it.If you want some more info or shots, ask.I just cant get it work

p.s.:why is that differences in values?I mean we both use same english nocd executables from GCW...?
