==Game Information==
DOOM needs no introduction. It is the grandfather of the FPS genre as we know it. The Jdoom engine is a port of the originally DOS-based game that allows for high-res OpenGL graphics, 3D models, dynamic lighting, digital music, mouselook, some widescreen support, among other things.
==Version==
This information is based on the Windows version of Jdoom/Doomsday, version 1.8.6, downloadable
here. Note that you will need the original data files in order to play the game. Jdoom allows you to play several DOOM engine games. They are DOOM (plus Shareware and Ultimate versions), DOOM 2, Final DOOM, Heretic (plus Shadow of the Serpent Riders add-on), and Hexen (plus Deathkings of the Dark Citadel add-on). All of the information in this report applies to all of these games.
==Method==
You will need to change your resolution and your FOV settings, but these can both be done through JDoom's ingame control panel. I recommend an FOV of 110 for 16:10 resolutions and 120 for 16:9 resolutions (default is 90).
==Screen change==
This game is Hor+, dependant on your FOV setting.
1024x768, FOV 90
1280x800, FOV 110
==Supported resolutions==
I have successfully run this game at all of the common widescreen resolutions, including 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, and 1920x1200.
==Singleplayer anomalies==
There is one major problem - the frequently used automap does not scale correctly. It is stretched.
1024x768, FOV 90
1280x800, FOV 110
==Multiplayer support==
I couldn't get multiplayer to work. The FOV setting doesn't appear to be cheat-protected, though.
==Aspect ratio support==
The game's aspect ratio automatically matches your resolution. But the wider your aspect ratio, the higher the FOV needs to be to maintain Hor+.
1280x720, FOV 120
1280x800, FOV 110
==HUD stretch==
The HUD stretches. If you use the 2D weapon display (like I am in these screenshots), the weapon in your hand is the most obviously stretched element.
==Cut-scenes==
DOOM doesn't really have any cut-scenes. Just a few sparsely animated screens between levels, and outro texts and screens at the end of each episode.
==Grading==
Calculated grade: C+
This would have been a B+ if the automap scaled right.
Major unresolved issues:
None.
Minor unresolved issues:
None.
Summary of widescreen-related flaws:

Stretched HUD.
